Paris Saint-Germain retained the Champions League title by beating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties on Saturday after a 1-1 draw following extra time.

The match, played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, saw Arsenal take the lead in the sixth minute through Kai Havertz, who lashed a shot past PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

PSG struggled to equalise against a rock-solid Arsenal defence until the 65th minute, when Cristhian Mosquera fouled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the box. Ousmane Dembélé calmly converted the resulting penalty.

Neither side could find a winner in the remaining minutes of normal time or extra time, forcing the game to a penalty shootout.

PSG triumphed in the shootout, with only Nuno Mendes failing to score. Arsenal’s Eze and Gabriel missed their kicks, with Gabriel blasting his effort over the crossbar.

With this victory, PSG became the first club to retain the Champions League title since Real Madrid’s three-year reign from 2016 to 2018, cementing their status among Europe’s modern greats.
