Dr Samuel Kolawole Oredipe has emerged as the new chairman of the Bayelsa State Athletics Association.

Oredipe takes over from Mr Godwin Oghogho, the former chairman, whose tenure has elapsed.

The new chairman, a former middle-distance runner, is the immediate past vice-chairman of the association in the state and a current board member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), where he serves as auditor.

In a letter of appointment endorsed by the Director of Sports, Bayelsa State Sports Council, Mr Andrew Aye, Oredipe’s elevation to chairman followed his contributions to the development of athletics in the state over the past five years.

Aye urged the new chairman to continue to work with key stakeholders of the sport in the state to achieve more progress.

Dr Oredipe, a seasoned broadcaster who is currently the Director-General of Bayelsa State Government’s New Media, is also the founder of SamKay Athletics Club of Yenagoa.

His club has, over the years, discovered and nurtured young Bayelsa track and field athletes who have gone on to represent the state at national and international levels.
