Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC–Sokoto Central) has donated an office complex to the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) in Sokoto State to promote education and youth empowerment.
Wamakko, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Loans, handed over the facility to NABTEB’s Registrar, Dr. Aminu Muhammad, on Saturday in Sokoto.
Represented by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, the senator said the gesture was part of his continuous support for educational development and youth empowerment.
He said the donation was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes human capital development and job creation, as well as Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s Smart Agenda aimed at repositioning Sokoto State through education, skills, and innovation.
“There can be no meaningful development without education,” Wamakko said.
He recalled that during his tenure as Governor of Sokoto State, education was given top priority, with several schools built and renovated, and thousands of teachers recruited.
According to him, his administration also established scholarship schemes, supported indigent students, and invested heavily in tertiary education to ensure young people could compete globally.
“Education is not an expense; it is the best investment any government can make,” he said. “These efforts inspired my personal investment in establishing the North-West University in Sokoto — a testament to my enduring belief that every young person deserves quality education.”
Wamakko emphasized that the future of Nigeria lies in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), noting that the world is moving from paper qualifications to practical skills.
He called for collective efforts to support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for sustainable growth through skill development, job creation, and wealth generation.
Wamakko also commended Governor Aliyu for his vision of establishing technical colleges, promoting digital literacy, and supporting youth innovation in the state.
In his remarks, NABTEB’s Registrar, Dr. Aminu Muhammad, described the donation as the first of its kind from any individual to the agency.
He commended Wamakko for what he called a “historic gesture” that reflects visionary leadership, patriotic commitment, and genuine concern for the advancement of technical and vocational education.
“The structure is a towering monument to his unwavering commitment to educational development and his profound belief in NABTEB’s mission,” Muhammad said.
“Senator Wamakko’s donation transcends the ordinary. It is an investment in the future of Nigeria through transformative action that speaks volumes of his love for national development.”
He noted that NABTEB plays a central role in Nigeria’s educational system by setting standards for technical and vocational training, assessing competencies, and ensuring quality.
“We strengthen the entire TVET ecosystem and serve at the forefront of actualizing President Tinubu’s TVET programme to empower youth, reduce poverty, and drive economic growth,” he added.
Muhammad pledged to use the new office complex to improve administrative efficiency, training, documentation, and service delivery.
The event was attended by Ambassador Isa Gada, Deputy Speakers of the Sokoto and Gombe State Houses of Assembly, Kabiru Kware and Saddam Bello, among others.
