Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank) has confirmed an attempt to compromise its website domain. The bank’s management disclosed the incident in a statement released on Thursday in Lagos.
According to the statement, the hacking attempt occurred on Wednesday, just a day after the bank renewed its domain name. This led to a temporary disruption of the website, rendering customers unable to access online services.
GTBank reassured the public that customer data was not compromised, emphasizing that it does not store customer information on its website. The bank addressed widespread concerns, clarifying that the reports suggesting the bank’s website had been cloned and customer data intercepted were unfounded.
“Our attention has been drawn to reports in the media alleging that hackers have seized the bank’s website, cloned it, and intercepted customers’ data. This incident was unsuccessful, and our website was not cloned,” the bank stated.

The financial institution added that its information security experts are currently working around the clock to restore the domain settings and ensure full functionality of the website.
GTBank reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding customer data and urged customers to disregard the claims circulating in the media. The bank encouraged customers to remain calm and confident in its robust security measures, which are designed to protect against such incidents.
“We urge all our customers to please disregard the claims in these media reports and assure you of our unwavering commitment to safeguarding customer data,” the statement concluded.
