The Sokoto State Police Command has issued security clearance alert to avert security breaches from the planned protest organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), over Naira crisis, and scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

This is contained in a statement by the spokesperson, SP Abubakar Sanusi, made available to ASHENEWS on Tuesday.

According to CP Gumel, security clearance points would be creates at Kano Road by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Maiduguri Road, Gawon Nama, and Government House roundabouts, and Aliyu Jodi roundabout.

“In view of the ongoing plan by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to embark on a nationwide peaceful protest tomorrow 29/03/2023.

“Sokoto State Police Command under the leadership of CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel is notifying residents of the state that, there will be security clearance points in the following locations:

1. Kano Road by CBN.

2. Maiduguri Road.

3. Gawon Nama roundabout

4. Government House roundabout.

5. Aliyu Jodi roundabout.

“The Police Command is fully aware of the fact that peaceful protests are part of the features of democracy, rights and freedoms of all Nigerians, this measure is aimed at enhancing the security and safety of all residents mindful of the fact that your rights end when they infringe on someone’s rights and the measures taken are not in anyway intended to violate or threaten the concept.

“This public notice is in order to effectively perform our law enforcement functions particularly areas of crime prevention and providing security for all critical infrastructure from hoodlums who may intend to take advantage and cause chaos or mayhem.

“It’s in this regard, that members of the public should note that the police command is already collaborating with all relevant action agencies in the state to make adequate deployment that will fully protect the state and checkmate any attempt by disgruntled elements to disrupt or hijack the peaceful protest.

“Therefore the Command is calling on all the good people of Sokoto State to bear with the decision as it’s designed for the betterment of the State and that the police is  assuring all citizens of  protection of their lives and properties,” the statement reads.
