The FCID Annex in Lagos has called for stronger collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to improve efforts against domestic and sexual violence.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of FCID, Mr. Simeon Akpanudom, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the DSVA on Thursday.
This was contained in a statement by FCID spokesperson ASP Aminat Mayegun.
Akpanudom led his team to discuss ways to strengthen joint efforts in handling GBV cases in Lagos.
Welcoming the delegation, DSVA Executive Secretary Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi appreciated the visit and emphasized the importance of the longstanding partnership with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure justice for survivors.
She stressed the need to prioritize survivor welfare, noting that victims require ongoing support for trauma recovery.
She also praised the police for their role in investigations and securing convictions.
Vivour-Adeniyi highlighted benefits of the collaboration, including better referral pathways, increased prosecutions, and improved inter-agency coordination.
She called for establishing a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Desk within the FCID Annex and capacity-building support for detectives.
In response, Akpanudom reaffirmed FCID’s commitment to professionalism and proper investigation procedures in GBV cases.
He viewed the proposed GBV Desk as a positive step toward strengthening institutional response.
He also praised the DSVA for establishing the Sexual Offenders Register, calling it a valuable tool for monitoring offenders, supporting investigations, and enhancing accountability.
He urged close collaboration, noting that engaging the head of FCID would facilitate seamless coordination and prompt responses.
The AIG emphasized the importance of integrating the Sexual Offenders Register with the Central Criminal Registry to enhance documentation, intelligence gathering, and tracking of serial offenders.
He stressed that accurate records would support investigations and improve law enforcement efforts.
