…Parades 8 suspects on various crimes
The Sokoto State Police Command have raided a political party office in Isa local government area of Sokoto state and recovered three AK-47 rifles, a locally-made gun and other dangerous weapons.
The commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel disclosed this briefing newsmen at the command headquarters on Tuesday.
Though he did not disclose the name name of the political party, the CP said thugs were suspected to have stored the weapons ahead of 2023 political campaigns.
According to Gumel, the police would not compromise its mandate of maintaining law and order as well as ensuring a peaceful electioneering process.
He warned those intending to perpetrate violence, adding that the command would not allow blood-letting before, during campaigns or elections in the state.
Parading suspected criminals
ASHENEWS reports that the Commissioner of Police also paraded eight suspects accused of various criminal acts including banditry, kidnapping and robbery over the last one month.
According to him, the Command arrested one Abdullahi Bello who allegedly collaborated with one Ibrahim and Aliyu all of Tudun Kwangi village and involved in banditry in a community in Gwadabawa local government.
The police said it recovered an AK-47 rifle from him.
Similarly, one Mohammed Umar of Bado Quarters Sokoto was alleged to have stolen a Toyota car but was arrested in Bakori, Katsina state.
Also, acting on a complaint by one Suleiman Musa that some persons conspired and kidnapped his son and demanded N4 million ransom, the Police subsequently arrested one Haliru Usman with his accomplices, Abdullahi Umar and Farouk Usman who are indigenes of Plateau and Sokoto states, respectively.
“The suspects have since been arrested and the sum of N2.5 million recovered out of the N4 million paid as ransom by the father of the kidnapped child.”
Mr Gumel also disclosed that the prime suspect is a neighbour to the father of the kidnapped child.
