Bandits have attacked Kabe village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing a 75-year-old woman in the latest incident of insecurity in the North-Central state.

The attack reportedly occurred late on the same day Governor Umaru Bago paid a condolence visit to the Borgu Emirate Council over recent security challenges in the area.

Sources said the assailants, who were armed and riding several motorcycles, stormed the village at about 10:00 p.m., looting food items and other valuables.

A community source confirmed that an elderly woman, identified as Amina Adamu, was killed during the invasion, adding that no resident was abducted.

“They came late in the night with many motorcycles, took food items and other valuables. Only one woman was killed, and no one was abducted,” the source said.

The incident came hours after the Niger State Government issued a two-month ultimatum to residents of hamlets around Kainji Lake to vacate the area for resettlement, as part of efforts to flush out criminal elements operating within the axis.

Governor Bago announced the directive during his condolence visit to the Emir of Borgu, Muhammad Haliru Kitoro, at the palace in New Bussa, following a recent terrorist attack in the emirate.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Niger State Police Command are ongoing. The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would provide details on the incident.
