An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigator, Mr Samuel Adelana on Friday told an Ikeja Special Offences Court how a cleric, Ayodeji Olorunfemi, allegedly defrauded an octogenarian of N36.5 million. Olorunfemi is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing. Adelana, a police officer with EFCC, was led in evidence by counsel to the commission, Mr Ahmed Yerima. President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the leadership of the National Assembly to stop the practice of approving special budget for government enterprises by committees of the parliament. Buhari made the call when he presented the 2023 Appropriation Bill of N20.51 trillion to a joint session of the National Assembly on Friday in Abuja. The Court of Appeal has permitted the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to appeal the ruling of the National Industrial Court (NIC) ordering the union to call off its strike. However, the appellate court granted the application on the condition that the union obeys the ruling of the lower court and calls off the strike immediately pending the determination of the substantive suit The court gave ASUU seven days within which to file the appeal. China’s external financial assets stood at $9.1563 trillion at the end of June and the external financial liabilities reached $7.0746 trillion resulting in over $2.0816 trillion of net external assets. The State Administration of Foreign Exchange said external financial assets, reserves assets reached $3.2466 trillion, accounting for 35 per cent of the total.
