Nigeria’s insurance industry’s total assets grew to about N2.3 trillion in the second quarter of 2022, indicating an increased growth rate of 11.9 per cent over the first quarter. The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) made this known on Friday in Lagos in a bulletin on Insurance Market Performance made available by Mr Rasaaq Salami, its spokesman. The Governing Council of the University of Lagos has appointed Prof. Folasade Ogunsola as the 13th and first female Vice Chancellor of the institution. This is contained in a statement by Mrs Adejoke Alaga, Principal Assistant Registrar (Communication Unit) of the university and issued to newsmen on Friday night in Lagos. She said that the appointment is for five-year tenure with effect from Saturday, November 12, 2022 to Thursday, November 11, 2027. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has picketed Alibert Production (Furniture) Limited, Abuja, over the reported sack of 200 workers. The NLC President, Mr Ayuba Wabba, said this when he led the workers to picket the firm’s factory in Idu on Friday in Abuja. The federal government through the Rural Electrification Agency has donated 171 solar irrigation pumps to vegetable farmers in Lagos. Twenty four persons lost their lives as flood and windstorm affected no fewer than 18, 245 people in Katsina state, according to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). The spokesperson of the agency, Mr Umar Muhammad, disclosed this in Katsina on Friday. Muhammad said that the disasters were recorded in all the 34 local government areas (LGAs) of the state during the 2022 rainy season.
