The House of Representatives Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has slammed the Ministry of Health over disengagement of a local contractor in a $100 million loan agreement to eliminate malaria. The loan agreement is between Nigeria and the Islamic Development Bank meant to address the challenge of malaria in the country. The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Spotlight Initiative have invested 500 million euros in the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) among women and girls globally. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), says prices of rice, garri, tomato, beans, yam and other food items increased in April 2024. The NBS said this in its Selected Food Prices Watch report for April 2024 released in Abuja on Friday. The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to end gas flaring in the country by 2030. The Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Salako, stated this in Abuja at the inaugural workshop on quarterly reporting of utilisation efforts and initiatives toward the reduction of carbon footprints (emissions) in Nigeria. He said that data showed that from 2016 till date, 1.621 billion metric tonnes of gas worth 5.654 billion dollars had been flared. Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday said that President Bola Tinubu had successfully secured over 20 billion dollars in investment for Nigeria.
