ASHENEWS reports that the Sokoto state Ministry for Health has begun the distribution of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to combat child malnutrition and treat ascites disease.

The state Health Commissioner, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe during the flag-off of the RUTF warned against the diversion of the therapeutic food saying that strict monitoring mechanisms would be put in place to guard against any diversion. she promised strict actions against any health worker caught in the act or involved in any misconduct.

Balarabe emphasized the state government’s commitment to improving the health of malnourished children and those affected by ascites. She said that the allocation of resources has been made available for the procurement and distribution of RUTF which is branded as “TAMOWA” across all general hospitals in the state.

The Commissioner assured that the ministry, in collaboration with various stakeholders has put comprehensive measures in place to ensure that the food reaches the intended recipients.

She then urged parents to take full advantage of the initiative to enhance their children’s health and ensure that they combat malnutrition in the state.

The Director General of the Sokoto State Drugs and Medical Supplies Management Agency, Pharmacist Umar Attahiru called on health workers to diligently monitor the distribution and usage of the RUTF stressing that it is exclusively for malnourished children and those with Ascites.

He further advised that the state nutritional project should be well monitored and implemented.

The Nutritional Project was earmarked by the state government under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in its bid to foster health and nutritional development in the state.
