Christian Aid, with support from UNICEF and the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA), has supplied emergency response materials to Kaduna North Local Government Area to strengthen flood preparedness.
The Programme Manager of Christian Aid, Mrs Abisola Alabi, presented the materials during a visit to the local government secretariat on Thursday.
Alabi said the items would be distributed to three flood disaster focal points at Kigo Road, Malali and Rafin Guza.
She said the intervention was meant to improve the capacity of communities to respond to flooding and other emergencies.
Alabi listed the materials as seven pairs of rain boots, six life jackets, six blankets, one first aid box, one 100-metre rope and a megaphone.
“Each of the three focal points will receive two life jackets, two rain boots and two blankets.
“The first aid box, rope and megaphone will support the Local Government Emergency Management Committee in coordinating emergency response,” she said.
The Director of Social Sector of the council, Aisha Zarma, received the materials on behalf of the vice chairman, Ibrahim Ahmed.
Zarma appreciated Christian Aid and KADSEMA for supporting vulnerable communities.
She assured that the council would ensure the materials reached the designated focal points and were used judiciously.
Zarma said the council was ready to work with humanitarian organisations, emergency management agencies and other stakeholders to improve disaster preparedness.
She added that the collaboration would help protect lives, reduce disaster impacts and strengthen emergency response in Kaduna North.
