The Senate on Tuesday, rejected President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. The upper chamber rejected Onochie’s nomination in consideration of its Committee on INEC’s, which is chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya. The committee recommended that Onochie be disqualified on the grounds that her nomination violated Section 14 (3) of the 1999 Constitution on the Principle of Federal Character. It further observed that there is currently a serving commissioner from Delta state, where Onochie hails from.

Enugu state government has recorded N7.1 billion as internally generated revenue (IGR) in the first quarter of 2021, a report by the state ministry of budget and planning has stated. According to the Budget Performance Report obtained on Monday, the figure represents 24.4 per cent of the N29.2 billion targeted for the year. The report states that revenues from Federal Account and Value Added Tax (VAT) amounted to N13 billion, representing 19.7 per cent against N65.7 billion projection for the 2021 fiscal year. Gunmen who abducted the Emir of Kajuru, Alhassan Adamu have demanded a ransom of N200 million. The Emir and 13 members of his family, was kidnapped early Sunday morning. The spokesperson of the Emirate Council, Dahiru Abubakar disclosed on Monday that the bandits also gave assurances that all the victims are in good condition and not being molested. According to him, the council had appealed to the bandits to release the 85-year-old and his family members.
