The Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako on Monday, adjourned the trial of leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu till October 21. The adjournment was due to the failure of the State Security Services, SSS, to produce him in court. Recall that Kanu was arrested and extradited to Nigeria from Kenya and has been in the Service custody after his first arraignment. Kanu is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony brought against him by the federal government of Nigeria over his Biafran agitation.

In its verified website on Monday morning, the centre said it registered 216 new COVID-19 cases as of July 25. The new infections indicate a decline from the 272 cases recorded a day earlier. Weather authorities warned of heavy rains, gale force winds and high waves which could already affect the region from Monday onwards. Germany says it is expected to repatriate 7,000 artefacts plundered from Benin Kingdom to Nigeria not later than October, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said. The Permanent Secretary, Amb. Gabriel Aduda, disclosed this at the Inaugural Nigerian Cultural Show exhibiting Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, sites and traditional festivals held at the Cultural Centre, Nigeria House, New York.
