The United Nations food agency, the World Food Programme, WFP, has won the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger and improve conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas. The winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize was announced on Friday at 11 a.m. (0900 GMT) in Oslo by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. There were 318 candidates, 211 individuals and 107 organisations for the nomination. China’s foreign ministry said on Friday the country has joined the global COVAX vaccine alliance, which aims to supply doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to low and middle-income countries. The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Hua Chunying, said in a statement. China has, thus, become the biggest economy to support the initiative, which has so far been joined by more than 150 countries, according to the UN. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says each state in the country now has molecular diagnostic capacity for free COVID-19 testing.
