The federal government  is to develop a Geographical Indications (GI), System for the country, as part of ongoing efforts to review the nation’s Intellectual Property policy and laws. Amb. Airtel Africa Plc, a provider of telecommunications and mobile money services in 14 countries, on Thursday announced the appointment of Mr Olusegun Ogunsanya, as the new Chief Executive Officer. In a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Thursday, Airtel Africa said that Ogunsanya would take over from Raghunath Mandava, as the Managing Director and the Chief Executive Officer, following his intention to retire. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has queried the Board of the First Bank of Nigeria Plc for removing Dr Adesola Adeduntan, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, without regulatory approval. The query is contained in a letter dated April 28, 2021 signed by the CBN Director, Banking Supervision, Mr Haruna Mustafa. The letter was addressed to the bank’s Chairman, Mrs Ibukun Awosika. Mustafa said that the action was taken without due consultations with the regulatory authorities, especially given the systemic importance of the commercial bank. U.S. President Joe Biden has urged Congress to approve in May a police reform that would address the issue of racially motivated brutality. Biden made the call in a speech before a joint session of Congress on Wednesday evening. “Let’s get it done next month, by the first anniversary of George Floyd’s death. “The country supports this reform. German vaccine manufacturer BioNTech is to request the authorisation of its COVID-19 vaccine for children from the age of 12 in the European Union, it announced on Thursday. The request would probably be filed in the next few days with the European Medicines Agency (EMA), a spokesperson told doa. The World Bank says Russia, Iraq, Iran, the United States, Algeria, Venezuela and Nigeria remain the top seven gas flaring countries for nine years running. The bank said this on Wednesday in Washington DC in its gas flaring satellite data for 2020, compiled by World Bank’s Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR). It added that the satellite was first launched in 2012.
