The Management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has approved the dismissal of two of its lecturers, over what it described as ‘poor moral conduct’. The lecturers were Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu of the Department of European Languages and Integration Studies, Faculty of Arts, who was caught by an undercover reporter of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The other lecturer was Dr Samuel Omoniyi Oladipo of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences. The African Union Development Agency/New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA/NEPAD’s) briefing of its second review on Self-Assessment Reports is set for submission to President Muhammadu Buhari. Troops of the Nigerian Army, operating around Sabo Birni border town of Sokoto state on Tuesday, neutralised three gunrunners and recovered weapons. The federal government has accused Twitter, which on Wednesday deleted president Muhammadu Buhari’s Tuesday tweet on Biafran war of 1967-1970 that claimed many lives, as being biased. Twitter has deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet where he threatened to treat Nigerians “misbehaving” in “the language they understand”. Kenya’s state-owned electric power producer said on Wednesday that it had begun drilling the first geothermal well at Aluto site in central Ethiopia for the country’s state utility firm Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP). The CEO of Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), Rebecca Miano said in a statement issued in Nairobi that the company has so far drilled 29 meters against a possible maximum of 3,000 meters. The Senate has passed a bill prohibiting employers of labour from discriminating between university degree holders and Higher National Diploma (HND) certificate holders. This was sequel to the adoption of a report by the Senate Joint Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters and Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND at plenary on Wednesday.
