The UN International Labour Organisation (ILO) has said that four billion people live without any welfare protection globally to cushion the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, ILO stated in a new report on Wednesday that COVID-19 crisis had also pushed up government spending by some 30 per cent. A new coronavirus “variant of interest” named Mu – also known by its scientific name as B.1.621 – is being closely monitored by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the agency has said. In its weekly epidemiological update, published on Tuesday, WHO warned that the variant was becoming increasingly prevalent in Colombia and Ecuador and had shown signs of possible resistance to vaccines.
