The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) are calling on manufacturers of medical products to stop supplying their goods to Sabon Gari Market and Niger Street in Kano.

This plea was issued in a statement co-signed by the management of both organizations and disseminated to the media in Abuja.

Entitled “Urgent Call to Action,” the statement urges manufacturers and importers to stop the distribution of medicines to Niger Street and Sabon Gari Market in Kano.

The appeal was directed to manufacturers of pharmaceutical products, importers, company representatives and all distributors.

It stated that any company found contravening the appeal “risks losing site licence as well as the product licence”.

It stated that companies must cease supplying pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and other regulated medical products to facilities or companies in those areas of Kano.

They stated that all pharmaceutical supplies must henceforth be made at the coordinated wholesale centre in Dangwauro, Kano State.

The statement stated that the appeal followed a judgment by the Court of Appeal ordering Kano Medicine Dealers to vacate Niger Street/Sabon Gari market and to relocate to the coordinated wholesale centre in Dangwauro, Kano.

It stated that the measure was to ensure good distribution of pharmaceuticals, medical devices and thereby, help to prevent the circulation of substandard and falsified medicines.

The statement also urged retailers, hospitals and other medical facilities to heed to the advice.
