ASHENEWS reports that the chairman of the Shiroro local government council in Niger state, Akilu Isyaku, has vowed to retrieve government land from trespassers at Alai Kutare area of Kuta, headquarters of the local government.
This is contained in a statement by the Information Officer of the local government, Abubakar Abdullahi, made available to ASHENEWS on Wednesday.
Isyaku, who visited the area on Monday, observed that “a larger part of the land, which is being considered for retrieval, is government demarcated area. The decision to retrieve the land is for the interest of the entire local government area, and not personal.
The chairman directed the District Head of Alai and the Land Officer, Mr. Ibrahim Nakanti, to identify the actual government land, remove all beacons erected by individuals and demarcate it to ascertain government ownership.
He warned that those who had already built houses on the land after numerous warnings, would be prosecuted.
At the Girls Day Secondary School Kuta, Akilu promised to rehabilitate the school from its deplorable state.
In the same vein, the chairman warned the youth engaged in sale of illicit drugs at Wazo in Kuta Central Market, advising that the practice would only result in regrets.
He ordered them to vacate the area within one week, warning that such business is not welcome in the local government area.
Akilu expressed dismay over the attitude of a new group in the local government area, ‘Yan Balaja’u’, whose operations are demoralizing he known cultural values of the Shiroro people
“Anyone found inviting such group to events of any kind, will face the wrath of the law.” Akilu warned.
