The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has partnered with the University of West of Scotland on the African Agricultural Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (AAKTP) to boost food security and enhance economic growth.
Auwal Umar, the Director, Public Affairs Directorate of ABU, confirmed this in a statement issued on Monday in Zaria.
Umar said the partnership was designed to facilitate knowledge exchange and capacity building in the agricultural sector by bringing new skills and latest academic thinking to support strategic innovation in agriculture.
According to him, the project focuses specifically on local Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in four target countries in Africa namely: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and South Africa.
“The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, secured the partnership with the UK university.
“Bala also stood in for ABU at the meeting on collaboration and partnership between the two universities at University of the West of Scotland, the United Kingdom, recently,” Umar said.
He explained that the discussion for the collaboration between the two universities was facilitated by the African Forum in Scotland through Dr. Festus Ogunmola, the Director, Centre for Policy Research and Development, Glasgow.
