The National Industrial Court, on Monday, has restrained the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) from embarking on the planned strike action scheduled to commence on Wednesday.
ASHENEWS reports that the NLC, with its affiliate bodies, and the TUC, have been mobilising all members to embark on a nationwide strike from Wednesday, over the recent fuel subsidy removal announced by President Bola Tinubu.
But against the planned strike action, the Nigerian government, through the Attorney General of Federation, had filed a suit challenging the planned action by the organised labour.
While the matter was ongoing in the court, meetings called at the instance of the federal government, had ended in deadlock, with the NLC insisting that there would be no further discussion until the FG reverted back to the old pump price of petrol before May 29th.
However, the court on Monday, restrained the unions against any industrial action pending the hearing and determination of a Motion on Notice dated 5th June, 2023.
The presiding judge, Justice O.Y. Anuwe granted leave to the applicants, to effect service of the interim order with the Motion on Notice and the Originating Summons, on the defendants by pasting same on the wall or entrance of the last known addresses of the defendants at Plot 829/821 Labour House Central Business District Abuja and No. 47, Yakubu Gowon Cresent Asokoro District Abuja, respectively.
