Nigeria @60: Lawmaker urges Nigerians to support Buhari’s government

Hon. Micah Jiba, the lawmaker, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, has called on Nigerians for a collective and selfless support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, to move the country to greater height.

Jiba, who made the call while reacting to President Muhammadu Buharis Independence Day speech on Thursday, also urged residents of the FCT, to always strive for peace and unity of the country.

According to him, the issues of political, religious and ethnic sentiments should be kept aside by Nigerians if the country must grow and compete favourably with other developed nations.

He acknowledged the fact that the country had gone through hard times but still united, adding that Nigeria would soon be rated amongst other developed countries of the world, but required sacrifices and patriotism.

“Our country is progressing based on our achievements so far, we as true Nigerians believe that since Rome was not built in a day, Nigeria will definitely get to her glorious height among other developed nations of the world.

“One day, just like Lagos State, the people of the FCT will one day have an Abuja State, although, there is nothing we can do apart from contributing our collective responsibilities as well as supporting the government.

“When Nigeria was ten years, we were called underdeveloped nation, but now at 60, we are a developed nation. We can develop more, if only we can change our attitude from negative to positive,” he said.

On the clamour for Abuja to be recognised as a state, Jiba explained that there was a gazetted memorandum submitted before the National Assembly (NASS).

He, however, promised to do his best to make sure that the 9th Assembly looks into it and ensure that the proper thing was done in line with the constitution.

“The agitation is a genuine one, because the same thing was witnessed in Lagos before it was created as a state.

“As we have come together to make the government know our request and position, I believe that the Federal Government and other stakeholders will support the FCT people and make it a reality.

“Therefore, we are calling on the Federal Government to carry us along in major decisions making, and very soon Nigeria will consist of 37 states and not 36 states.

“I am aware of the memorandum recently submitted to NASS, and I have not noticed anything that went contrary to the law of the federation. So, we are in support of the move,” Jiba said.

The lawmaker also condoled with the family of John Gabaya, Chairman, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, over the death of his wife, Mrs Shekwoyemilo Gabaya.

He described her as a solid pillar that stood firmly behind her husband and the council, in ensuring that the people of the council enjoys the dividends of democracy, especially the women at the grassroots.

He said her death came as a rude shock to the entire people of the FCT, praying that God gives the family and the people of the council the heart to bear the irreplaceable lost.

Jiba also prayed that God almighty grants her children as well as the loved ones the fortitude to take solace in the Lord.
