The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Bauchi State chapter, has elected new executives to run the affairs of the association for the next three years.

The election, which came up on Wednesday at the NUJ Secretariat Bauchi, had Rashida Yusuf of Bauchi State Television (BATV) as Chairperson; Talatu Landy of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Bauchi, Vice Chairperson, and Amina Ahmed of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as Secretary.

Others are Ramah Mutashi Luka of Federal Radio Corporation (FRCN) Globe FM, Assistant Secretary; Amina Abdullahi Mudi also from Globe FM, Financial Secretary; Firdausi Bakondi of Albarka Radio, Auditor, and Diana Yohanna of the State ministry of  Information and Communication as Treasurer.

Speaking shortly after the election, the new NAWOJ officials were sworn in by the Zonal Secretary of NAWOJ Zone D, Teni Samuel.

In her acceptance speech, the chairperson, Yusuf  thanked members of the association for the support.

“I really thank Allah for witnessing  this day and l thank all members for giving us their trust and support. l promise to take NAWOJ to greater heights,” she said.”

Yusuf, who said that her priority would be training and retraining of members, added that her leadership would encourage young girls to take up journalism as a career.

“Our members are leaving the profession and many are retiring; so l will encourage young girls especially those in primary and secondary school levels to be interested in the profession.

The chairperson assured that she would sustain the legacies of her predecessor, Bulak Afsa, especially in the area of training.

“We will collaborate with other organizations and agencies of government in the state to ensure that we give our members the training they require.”

She called on women to come out on Saturday to vote in the Presidential and National Assembly election, urging them not to waste their votes.

Speaking on the conduct of the election, the Zonal Secretary, Tani Akas, commended the electoral Committee headed by Fibj Kafi for the peaceful and organised election.

Akas urged the new executives to promote unity, peace and professionalism among members of the association by carrying all stakeholders along.
