Lagos state government has bowed to the ruling of the Supreme Court of Nigeria delivered to allow any student who wishes to wear Hijab to school, to do so.
The state government had prohibited the use of Hijab in public schools, a situation that generated controversy leading to litigation that ended in the country’s apex court, which ruled that students who wanted to, were free to wear Hijab.
As a court of final adjudication with non other to appeal to, the state government, on Monday, issued a circular No. 068 dates December 5, 2022 and signed by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola to that regard.
According to the memo, the state government will soon release a comprehensive guideline on the use of Hijab in the state public schools and directed all accounting officers that should not only to comply by the ruling but also must give it widest publicity.
