The people of Kurebe community in Shiroro local government area of Niger state called on the state government to deploy security operatives, to tackle cases of incessant banditry attacks in the area.
A group led by the Village Head, Yusuf Saidu and Haruna Salihu Kurebe made the call when they visited the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Emmanuel Umar in Minna on Monday.
According to the group, the visit was to seek government’s intervention, through the deployment of security operatives to the community to tackle the disturbing insecurity in the area.
They said that bandits have prevented villagers from harvesting crops, a situation that could lead to food insecurity
While assuring that government will deploy security operatives to the community, Umar urged the community’s representatives to “work out modalities on how to live peacefully and fish out bad eggs in the community in order to assist security agents in curtailing insecurity.
According to the commissioner, “government is working tirelessly to curtail the activities of bandits in the state”, adding that “the state government is concerned about the security challenges facing the state and not resting on its oars to bringing them to an end.”
Umar further explained that the state government was working on strengthening both conventional security including the Police, the Army and others as well as the unconventional approaches involving the vigilante, etc in policing various communities in order to tackle the issue.
