Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, (UDUS) on Wednesday, inaugurated a 15-member governing council chaired by Sen. Ibrahim Ida as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.
The Vice Chancellor of UDUS, Prof. Lawal Bilbis, said the institution prides itself as the most peaceful university in the country.
Bilbis said the university community shared brotherly love and values besides improved learning, research and other academic activities.
“We are peaceful not only by name but by actions, the reason why parents struggle to get their children into our institution is because we mould people’s character as well,” Bilbis said.
In his address, the inaugurated Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, Sen. Ida appealed to Nigerians irrespective of religion, ethnicity, political inclination and status to support the government towards providing a safe and secured environment for all.
Ida assured that the council members would do their best to live up to expectation by improving on the present achievements and programmes of the institution.
“The challenges ahead are also formidable and daunting, considering the catalogues of challenges besetting higher education in Nigeria.
”We will be operating in a system that is very crucial to the development of the country,’’ he said.
He stressed that the challenges would make them chart a roadmap that would enable the team make the university become the best in the world.
Ida noted that the background of members of the new council indicated reach values in various fields of human endeavors.
”There is all conviction that the university is lucky to be entrusted with such hands,” Ida said.
