The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) rescued two persons trapped in a multi-vehicle crash along the Ogudu-Alapere inward Tollgate corridor in Lagos.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed this in a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, on Sunday in Lagos.
Bakare-Oki explained that the accident involved a 12-tyre DAF articulated truck and a commercial Volkswagen T4 bus with registration number AA 60 YF.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the bus somersaulted following a violent impact, trapping the driver and a passenger and blocking traffic in the area.
“LASTMA operatives, on routine patrol, responded swiftly and activated emergency rescue protocols to save lives and restore traffic flow.
“The responders, in collaboration with other emergency services, extricated the victims and handed them over to Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) for urgent medical care,” he said.
He also noted that officers from the Ketu Division of the Nigeria Police Force provided security support and crowd control during the rescue.
The scene was secured, and the damaged vehicles were promptly evacuated to ease congestion.
Bakare-Oki commended the operatives for their professionalism and prompt response, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to road safety.
He urged motorists, especially operators of articulated vehicles and commercial buses, to strictly follow traffic regulations and ensure proper vehicle maintenance.
The LASTMA boss stressed that road safety is a collective responsibility and called on all road users to exercise caution, patience, and discipline on the roads.
