The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, has paid a get-well visit to two officers of the agency who are currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Abuja.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The officers, Ayegh Zachariah and Shehu Ibrahim, sustained severe injuries after they were attacked by a violent mob.
The incident occurred during a raid on a notorious drug joint in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Friday.
During his visit to their hospital bedsides on Monday, Marwa sympathised with the injured officers and extended the full support of NDLEA management.
He assured them that the agency would take full responsibility for their welfare and ensure they receive the highest standard of medical care until they fully recover.
“The Agency will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for this cowardly attack are arrested and brought to justice.
“An attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go unpunished,” Marwa stated.
The NDLEA boss commended the duo for their exceptional bravery, commitment to duty, and professionalism during the high-risk Dawaki operation.
He emphasised that their sacrifices in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking remain invaluable to the nation.
Marwa also praised the agency’s medical team and staff at the National Hospital for their prompt response and quality care, which have helped stabilise the officers.
He assured the public that the NDLEA remains resolute in its mission to dismantle drug cartels and sanitise communities across the country, undeterred by violent resistance from criminal elements.
To further motivate the officers and recognise their heroism, the NDLEA chairman presented them with official Letters of Commendation personally signed by him, along with other support packages to aid their swift recovery.
