Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Sokoto North, positioning himself for a potential fourth term in the Nigerian Senate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wamakko emerged as the party’s flag bearer through an affirmation process conducted by APC members drawn from the eight local government areas of the senatorial district, in a primary exercise described as peaceful and consensus-driven.
The exercise, held alongside parallel primaries for Sokoto South and Sokoto East districts, produced Wamakko, Umar Ajiya, and Danbaba Dambuwa as the APC senatorial candidates for their respective zones.
Speaking after his affirmation, the former Sokoto State governor expressed appreciation to party members for their confidence in his leadership, describing the process as a reflection of unity and internal democracy within the APC. He also commended the peaceful conduct of the primaries across the state and urged continued commitment to party cohesion and public service.
Wamakko further reaffirmed his dedication to representing the people of Sokoto North, stressing that leadership should remain anchored on service to the electorate and not personal gain.
His emergence clears the path for him to contest another Senate term, strengthening his long-standing political presence in Sokoto politics, where he has previously served multiple terms as senator and governor.
The APC says the smooth conduct of the primaries reflects growing stability within the party in Sokoto State as it prepares for the next general election cycle.
