The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Awka, says it will deploy more medical doctors and nurses to Ajam Community Hospital in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area.
The Chief Medical Director, Dr Maureen Umeakuewulu, made the promise on Friday in Ezinifite during the inauguration of newly renovated male and female wards.
She said the deployment would strengthen healthcare delivery and help reduce maternal mortality at the grassroots level.
“For this hospital to function effectively, we need more doctors and nurses to provide 24-hour services,” she said.
Umeakuewulu added that the move would ensure proper antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care for residents in the community.
She emphasised the critical role of primary healthcare centres and community hospitals as the first point of contact for patients.
The CMD also called for improved infrastructure, including a functional laboratory, ambulance service, solar power, borehole, perimeter fencing, and enhanced security.
She appealed for community support, noting that the government alone cannot fully equip and sustain the facility.
In his remarks, Aguata Local Government Chairman, Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, announced a health insurance scheme for 120 elderly persons across 14 communities in the area.
He said the initiative, under the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, would cost N12,000 per beneficiary annually.
The two renovated wards were executed by the local government council and equipped by the Star United Social Club.
The Traditional Ruler of Ezinifite, Igwe Bob Orji, commended the renovation and pledged the community’s support for proper utilisation of the facility.
The wards include male, female, and infant sections, fitted with modern beds and improved sanitation facilities.
