Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has urged residents across the state to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during the upcoming voter registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Otti made the call on Saturday during the kickoff of a statewide grassroots community engagement program at Agburuke Community Primary School in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Caleb Ajagba, the governor said the PVC registration, scheduled from May to August, would enable citizens to fully exercise their civic rights.
“There is another window opening from May 4 through August for PVC registration. While it is commendable that people are supporting us, it is important they are fully empowered to exercise their civic rights,” he said.
Otti explained that the community engagement initiative is part of his administration’s efforts to deepen grassroots inclusion and assess the impact of government policies directly from residents.
According to him, the exercise will allow government officials to interface with communities and gather firsthand feedback on ongoing projects and programs across the state.
Otti added that his administration has redefined governance through inclusive policies and people-oriented development initiatives reaching communities throughout Abia.
He expressed satisfaction with residents’ testimonials, acknowledging visible infrastructural projects and improvements in their communities under the current administration.
The governor assured residents that all ongoing projects in the area and across the state would be completed promptly.
The President-General of Agburuke Nsulu Development Association, Dr. Jesse Odu, expressed his community’s support for Otti’s bid for a second term.
Odu praised the administration’s developmental achievements as visible, impactful, and beneficial to the people.
In separate remarks, Mr. Oji Ikechukwu and Mrs. Ngozi Israel, community representatives, pledged continued support for the governor and the Labour Party.
They also commended the administration’s mobilization efforts for PVC registration and the National Identification Number enrollment, assuring active participation in civic engagement programs.
