The Nigeria Ministers’ Wives Forum (NMWF) has officially handed over a newly renovated theatre, doctors’ call rooms, and toilets at Zuba General Hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and support vulnerable communities.
The handover ceremony, held on Tuesday, also featured the distribution of food items to more than 300 women in the spirit of Lent and Ramadan, alongside donations of hospital equipment, bedsheets, and blankets to improve patient care at the facility.
Speaking during the event, the Vice Chairperson of the Forum, Mrs. Azizat Alausa, explained that the initiative was driven by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and aligned with the broader goal of enhancing medical services and supporting healthcare professionals.
“The month of Ramadan and Lent is a month of compassion and good deeds,” Alausa said. “So, we, the Nigerian Ministers’ Wives Forum, decided to refurbish parts of Zuba Hospital to enhance healthcare service delivery in the hospital.”
She expressed hope that similar interventions would be extended to other healthcare facilities across the nation’s capital in the future.
The wife of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mrs. Bilikisu Kyari, highlighted the practical benefits of the renovation, noting that it would improve operational efficiency, provide better working conditions for medical staff, and elevate the quality of care for patients in Zuba and surrounding communities.
Representing the FCT Health and Environment Secretariat, Mandate Secretary Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe commended the Forum under the programme theme “Renewing Hope, One Day at a Time.” She described the gesture as a clear demonstration of commitment to social welfare and healthcare improvement, while appealing to other associations and public-spirited Nigerians to support the health sector.
The Medical Director of Zuba General Hospital, Dr. Isah Bulama, described the support as “life-transforming” and praised the ministers’ wives for their consistent humanitarian contributions.
The Emir of Zuba, Bello Mohammed (represented by title holder Mohammed Salihu), thanked the Forum for giving the hospital a much-needed facelift and called for further expansion of facilities, as well as the recruitment of additional health workers to meet the needs of the growing population in the area.
Beneficiaries, including women leaders and community members such as Mrs. Aisha Mohammed, Mrs. Catherine Dauda, Mrs. Fatima Al-Hassan, Mrs. Josephine Joel (Women Leader of Zuba Ward), and others who received food items, expressed deep appreciation. They prayed for continued blessings on the Forum and the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The event underscored the NMWF’s role in complementing government efforts to improve healthcare access and promote community welfare, particularly during significant religious observances that emphasize compassion and service to others.
