The Kano State Government has signed two major renewable energy agreements with Tricell Solar Solutions and IRS Green Energy Limited to boost clean energy production in the state.
The agreements, sealed during the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum 2025 in Abuja, will lead to the establishment of solar panel manufacturing plants in Kano.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, the deals were signed in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), which will provide technical advisory and coordination support.
Under the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), IRS Green Energy Limited will set up a 600MW solar plant, while Tricell Solar Solutions will establish a 500MW facility, positioning Kano as a regional hub for renewable energy production.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Director-General of Kan-Invest, Nazir Halliru, described the partnerships as a major step toward expanding access to clean energy, promoting local manufacturing, and creating jobs.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima declared the forum open, while REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to working with state governments to achieve Nigeria’s renewable energy goals.
The Kano State Government commended the REA and its private-sector partners for their collaboration and pledged continued support to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.
