The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the theme for the country’s 2025 Independence Anniversary: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.” The theme focuses on the need for unity, teamwork, and patriotism to help build a peaceful, successful, and progressive Nigeria.

In a statement on Wednesday, Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, explained that the theme is a call for everyone in society to work together.

“The theme highlights the importance of unity and cooperation between the government, private businesses, civil society groups, and all Nigerians,” Imohiosen said. “It reminds us that all the progress we’ve made since independence in 1960 must continue through shared effort to ensure lasting peace and prosperity.”

The statement looked back at Nigeria’s journey since gaining independence on October 1, 1960. It noted the country’s strength in overcoming challenges and the progress made in various areas of the economy. The government wants all celebration activities to reflect the theme and support the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The statement also listed upcoming events to mark the anniversary. These include a Juma’at Prayer on Friday, September 26 at 1 pm, and an Inter-Denominational Church Service on Sunday, September 28 at 10 am. There will also be a World Press Conference on Monday, September 29 at 10 am, where more details will be shared.

Imohiosen encouraged all Nigerians to come together to celebrate both the country’s 65th birthday and the shared responsibility of building a better Nigeria.

“This 65th Independence Anniversary is not just a celebration,” he said, “but a chance for all of us to recommit to the values and goals that will shape Nigeria’s future.”
