In demonstrating responsive governance and genuine concern for the welfare of healthcare professionals, the Kaduna State Government, under the leadership of Governor Sen. Uba Sani, has graciously approved the full implementation of the 2024 Consolidated Medical Salary Scale (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Salary Scale (CONHESS) effective from September 2025. The move, which includes a full 100% hazard allowance for health workers, marks a moment in strengthening the morale and commitment of medical practitioners across the state.

By Abdoulaye Kay

This Uba Sani’s decisive action comes in response to pressing concerns raised by various health worker unions, including resident doctors, medical and health workers, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, and radiographers. The Governor’s compassionate approval sends a powerful message that the wellbeing of frontline healthcare workers is his top priority, ensuring they receive not only competitive pay but also the dignity and respect they deserve for their tireless service to humanity.

The approval is, assuredly, a renewed vow of Uba Sani’s passion to create an enabling environment for health workers. By mandating immediate resumption of work and swift commencement of the implementation process across relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, Uba Sani’s administration underscores its unwavering commitment to uninterrupted healthcare service delivery to the citizens of Kaduna.

This commendable initiative not only depicts the key strengths of Governor Uba Sani’s administration: empathy, decisiveness, and dedication to public health but also recognizes that the backbone of Kaduna’s healthcare system is not just policies or infrastructure but the motivated and valued men and women who provide life-saving services day in and day out.

What does the approval mean for the state?

Indeed, this approval ushers in a renewed hope in the health sector, fostering a harmonious work environment, and promising enhanced healthcare outcomes for all Kaduna residents. Citizens stand to benefit in numerous ways, including improved access to quality medical care as motivated health workers are more likely to provide attentive, efficient, and compassionate services.

Additionally, higher morale among health professionals reduces the risk of strikes or work stoppages, ensuring continuous healthcare availability. This boost in health worker confidence can lead to better retention and attraction of skilled professionals to Kaduna’s healthcare system, ultimately elevating the standard of healthcare delivery. Furthermore, the economic ripple effect of increased health worker income can stimulate local economies, benefiting the wider community.

It is a proud moment celebrated not just by the health workers but by every citizen who benefits from their exceptional care. Such leadership is the bedrock upon which a healthier, stronger Kaduna will be built—one where healthcare workers are honored as true heroes and partners in progress.
