A petrol tanker carrying 45,000 liters of fuel caught fire on Friday while discharging its contents at a filling station in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The incident happened at A1 Petroleum Filling Station, located at 15 Mukaz Avenue, off Ikorodu Road, by Agric bus stop, Owutu – Ikorodu.
In a statement, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident, saying it received an emergency call at 12:58 pm. The call reported that a 45,000-litre tanker with registration number IKD 479 XV had caught fire while offloading fuel.
Deputy Controller General of the service, Olajide Ogabi, said the quick action of firefighters helped to contain the blaze and no lives were lost.
According to him, the fire was limited to the tanker and just one dispensing pump out of six, preventing the flames from spreading further.
He added that the main filling station building, the mart, underground storage tanks, and the gas section were all preserved and not damaged.
Ogabi said fire crews from the Ikorodu and Alausa Fire Stations responded to the scene.
The fire service, while commending the successful response, advised filling station operators and stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to always maintain the highest safety standards. It also assured residents of its strong commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment in Lagos State.
