Nestlé Waters has started a new national campaign to help people understand why clean water is important in Nigeria. The campaign was launched in Abuja and is being done together with a group called OPS-WASH, which works on water, sanitation, and hygiene.
This partnership wants to involve government leaders, businesses, schools, and local communities in finding ways to deal with the dangers of dirty or unsafe water.
Mr. Olatunji Olutayo, a top executive at Nestlé Waters, said the company is dedicated to using water in a safe and responsible way. He mentioned that by 2025, Nestlé wants all its facilities to meet international water management standards. This shows the company’s serious commitment to protecting water sources and working with communities.
He added that the campaign’s main goals are to make sure everyone has access to clean water, to encourage teamwork among different groups, and to create long-term solutions for water safety.
Dr. Nicholas Igwe, the national head of OPS-WASH, said many Nigerians don’t know if the water they drink is safe. He explained that the campaign will help people learn how to protect their water sources, which will improve their health and reduce diseases spread through dirty water.
In his speech, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev (represented by Mrs. Elizabeth Ugoh), said the government is fully committed to improving water quality across the country. He praised Nestlé and OPS-WASH for starting this important campaign, saying it supports the country’s goals and the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Officials from the Federal Ministries of Environment, Health, and Social Welfare also supported the campaign. They said it will help change people’s behavior and play a big part in reaching Nigeria’s goals for clean and safe water.
Victoria Uwadoka, who leads communications and sustainability at Nestlé Nigeria, said this is more than just a campaign—it’s the start of a national movement. She said it will give people real actions they can take to make their water safer, which will improve health and support the country’s growth.
The campaign launch was attended by many important people, including government officials, civil society groups, and professionals like the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN). Nestlé and OPS-WASH urged everyone to join the effort to make clean and safe water available to every Nigerian.
