The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle O. Nafiu, has called for stronger cooperation between the NYSC and employers in Kebbi State to support national development.
Nafiu made this appeal during the 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop held in Birnin Kebbi. He said the yearly workshop helps everyone share ideas that can improve the running of the NYSC program.
The Director General, who was represented by the Kebbi State NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Bala Dabo, explained that past workshops have helped the NYSC make important decisions that have improved the program.
He said the workshop gives a chance for employers to have meaningful discussions, share opinions, and understand new NYSC policies better.
Nafiu also said the workshop helps solve unclear issues and build strong relationships between NYSC and employers. He believes that the 2025 workshop will also bring useful ideas that will benefit the scheme.
He explained the rules that guide both corps members and employers. He encouraged everyone at the workshop to suggest practical solutions to the problems facing corps member management.
Speaking at the event, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Comrade Nura Bala Fingilla, said that corps employers play an important role in helping NYSC achieve its goals.
He explained that the NYSC was created to promote unity and cooperation among young Nigerians from different cultural and regional backgrounds.
The Commissioner also said that NYSC teaches life skills and values, including the importance of work/life balance. He reminded employers that they must help corps members manage their duties without being overworked.
He said the well-being of corps members is a shared responsibility. When employers support a healthy work/life balance, they help corps members grow and develop positively.
The Commissioner added that the workshop is a great opportunity for NYSC leaders and employers to discuss how to improve service and meet the goals of the NYSC.
