The Adamawa State Government has started its 2025 agricultural support program. This program is meant to help small farmers and improve food supply across the state.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor David Jatau, shared this news with journalists on Friday in Yola.
He said that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had approved ₦2 billion to fund the program. The goal is to help farmers grow more crops during the 2025 farming season.
Professor Jatau explained that the program has already started and includes discounts on items like fertilizer, better seeds, and other farming materials for farmers in six local government areas.
He said the government plans to farm on 300 hectares of land in each of the six areas. Around 300 farmers will benefit in each location.
The program has begun in Madagali, Michika, Hong, Maiha, Demsa, and Ganye local government areas.
He added that next year, during the rainy season, the program will expand to the rest of the state.
To make sure the selection of farmers is fair, a special committee has been created. It includes traditional leaders, local government officials, security officers, and representatives of youth and women’s groups.
He also said that extension workers are being trained to teach farmers better farming methods to help them get more from their crops.
Professor Jatau said the program will not only increase food production but also create jobs, raise incomes in rural areas, and help the local economy grow.
He also mentioned that the state is working with NGOs and farming organizations. These partners have promised to provide more than 2,700 hectares of land for farming.
Finally, the commissioner said the government is serious about making sure the state can produce enough food on its own. He encouraged farmers who benefit from the program to make the most of the opportunity.
