The Kano State Government, in collaboration with Geoscan Technologies Nigeria, has taken a significant step toward enhancing investment in the solid minerals sector. A high-level roundtable discussion was held on Tuesday in Kaduna, focusing on data-driven strategies to position Kano as a prime destination for global investors.
The meeting featured key representatives from Geoscan Technologies Nigeria, including partners from its global headquarters in Berlin, Germany. Among them were Founder Dr. Ulrich Eichhorn, Co-founder, Directors, and Senior Geologists.
Leading the Kano State delegation was the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Hamza Safiyanu, alongside Permanent Secretary Engineer Mansur Yakubu and Directors from the Ministry.
Commissioner Safiyanu reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the partnership, highlighting its potential to attract international investment and create job opportunities—key priorities under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Speaking on behalf of Geoscan Technologies, CEO and Co-founder Mr. Oliver Haeggberg emphasized the company’s role in providing advanced technological services for scanning and analyzing mineral licenses. He noted that their findings would generate detailed reports, essential for attracting investors by determining the economic value of targeted minerals.
Nasiru Wada, a Director at Geoscan Technologies Nigeria and traditional titleholder Magaji Garin Kano, elaborated on the collaboration’s objectives. He underscored the Ministry’s role as both a regulatory authority and an enabler of investment in the solid minerals sector, particularly through its oversight of the Kano Mining Development Company Limited.
To fast-track this collaboration, Wada proposed the establishment of a technical committee to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both parties.
Renowned geologist and consultant Professor Ibrahim Garba advised the Ministry to prioritize updating technical knowledge to attract investors, improve regulatory oversight, and adopt global best practices in the mining sector. He emphasized the importance of a regulatory framework that fosters private sector participation.
It is worth recalling that in December 2024, the Ministry hosted the Managing Director of Geoscan Technologies Nigeria, Mr. Demiete Amachree, for a presentation titled “Roadmap for the Geoscan and Kano State Partnership towards Unlocking Opportunities in the Solid Minerals Sector.”
