The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is preparing to release the “Global Environmental Outlook 7” (GEO-7), a comprehensive report designed to help policymakers develop effective strategies for tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
Scheduled for publication in December 2025, the report will offer an in-depth look at environmental challenges and policy solutions on a global scale.
As UNEP’s flagship environmental assessment, GEO-7 will evaluate the current state of the environment, analyze the effectiveness of existing policies, and project future scenarios to highlight the need for immediate action.
Former Costa Rican Minister for Environment and Energy, Edgar Gutierrez-Espeleta, who co-chairs the report, emphasized that GEO-7 offers both “solution pathways” and “outlooks” that illustrate potential outcomes by 2050 and 2100 if current practices remain unchanged.
“Environmental issues impact every sector – from the economy and healthcare to agriculture and social security,” Gutierrez-Espeleta said.
“This report connects the dots, showing how ending environmental degradation can address multiple issues at once.”
With contributions from 300 scientists worldwide, including experts from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe, GEO-7 aims to provide a globally inclusive perspective on solutions to the most pressing environmental issues of our time.
