Meet- Alena Analeigh Wicker, 13-year-old youngest African-American to be accepted to a medical school.
The aspiring medical doctor made history when she received an early acceptance to study medicine from the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine.
After graduating from high school at the age of 12, she had already completed more than half of her undergraduate requirements at Arizona State University (ASU) and Oakwood University in just one year.
Alena became NASAs youngest intern at age 12. She initially wanted to study engineering but changed her mind when she discovered that there was greater need for medical professionals in underrepresented communities across the world.
She founded Brown Stem Girl Foundation to provide financial resources, support and mentorship for girls of color in STEM.
If everything falls into place, Alena will become a qualified Medical Doctor at age 20.
“I wouldn’t have succeeded without my mother’s support and sacrifices in my life.”
“She cheered me on, wiped my tears, gave me Oreos when I needed comfort, she never allowed me to settle, disciplined me when I needed. She is the best mother a kid could ever ask for.
“MAMA, I MADE IT! You always believed in me. You allowed me space to grow and become, make mistakes without making me feel bad. You allowed me the opportunity to experience the world,” said Alena Analeigh Wicker.
