The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency has commenced last-mile delivery for family planning commodities across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Kano by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Faruk Isa.
According to Isa, the Director General of the agency, Mr Gali Sule, said the last-mile delivery initiative is a strategic move to integrate family planning supplies into the state’s Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) scheme.
He explained that the DRF scheme enabled state-owned health facilities to receive essential medical supplies directly from the agency’s warehouses at no cost, ensuring a steady and sustainable flow of drugs and consumables.
“The initiative offers significant advantages, including improved accessibility, increased utilisation, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability,” Sule said.
He noted that the last-mile delivery system would help reduce health costs, ensure timely delivery, improve supply chain efficiency, and ensure that remote and underserved areas had access to essential family planning commodities.
“Last-mile delivery ensures that family planning commodities and services reach clients, even those in rural communities, making healthcare more inclusive.
“This effort will contribute to healthier families and communities,” he added.
Isa further explained that easy access to medications not only improved the quality of life for residents but also helps to reduce the overall healthcare burden on the system.
The director general also noted that the initiative would significantly cut down costs and the financial burden associated with transporting commodities from agency stores to healthcare facilities.
He reiterated that the programme was expected to bolster the efficiency of health service delivery across the state, especially in the area of reproductive health.
