I have taken time to read Chimamanda Adichie’s open letter to president Joe Biden of the United States of America and Fani Kayode’s reaction and cannot help but say that Fani Kayode’s reaction is imbecilic and childish.
Chimamanda had published an open letter titled, “Nigeria’s Hollow Democracy: Why is America congratulating the winner of this disastrous election?” addressed to Biden. The letter, inter alia stated that “I hope, President Biden, that you do not personally share this cordial condescension. You have spoken of the importance of a ‘global community for democracy,’ and the need to stand up for ‘justice and the rule of law’.”
Instead of addressing the issues raised in Chimamanda’s letter Fani Kayode went to town attacking her person using gutter language, ethnic slurs and unprintable words on her.
He described Chimamanda’s letter as an epistle of garbage that “belongs to the bottom of public toilet.” He described Chimamanda as an “over-rated and Igbocentric new age diva,”
He said: “Chimamanda’s ‘hollow democracy’ diatribe is a shitty little submission in a shitty little letter.
He said “Neither do we need to respond to her self-serving, self-seeking, jaundiced, subjective, partial, primitive, tribal observations and implausible ethno-religious sentiments.
He said “And if anything is hollow it is her well-manicured diva head and not our democracy. He said “It is a litany of unwholesome mendacities designed to undermine our democracy, impress her global audience and incite her local ‘Obidient’ tribesmen against the Nigerian people and state.
Fani Kayode’s above reaction amongst others is nothing but Vawulence and never addressed the issues raised in Chimamanda’s letter.
It is most unfortunate and regrettable that a man who touts himself as a London trained lawyer from a respectable and aristocratic family is behaving worst than an Agbero (motor park tout ) at Oshodi Oke bus stop.
