The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has announced a temporary nationwide disruption of SIM-related services across all mobile networks.

In a statement signed on Tuesday by its Chairman, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Damian Udeh, ALTON explained that the interruptions stem from the National Identity Management Commission’s (NIMC) rollout of a new identity verification platform.

Adebayo noted that while the platform aims to improve the integrity and efficiency of identity verification, unexpected technical challenges during migration are impacting service availability.

“Because of the transition, mobile network operators cannot currently process SIM swaps, replacements, new activations, or related services,” he said.

“ALTON and its member firms are collaborating with the NCC, NIMC, and relevant authorities to resolve integration issues.”

The association urged subscribers to postpone any SIM-related requests until the technical issues are fully resolved.

Meanwhile, Adebayo reassured the public that operators remain committed to ensuring secure, high-quality telecommunications and promised timely updates as the situation develops.
