Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has directed the immediate creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to facilitate partnership with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).
The governor issued the directive when he received a delegation from NASRDA, led by its Director-General, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, at the Niger State Liaison Office in Abuja.
The governor tasked the state’s Commissioner for Communication, Technology and Digital Economy, Suleiman Isah, to liaise with the agency and establish the SPV, which he said will eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks and accelerate the success of the partnership.
“There is no better time to collaborate with NASRDA than now. The SPV will help streamline our engagement and ensure tangible results,” he said, adding that the SPV will be formalized and gazetted, similar to arrangements in other sectors.
Earlier in his remarks, NASRDA’s Director-General, Dr. Adepoju, said the agency is eager to deploy space-based technologies in support of agriculture, education, security, and governance in Niger State.
He praised Governor Bago’s use of technology to drive development, describing him as “a right peg in a right hole.”
Dr. Adepoju added that NASRDA’s collaboration with the state would amplify ongoing efforts by the Bago administration, whose impact, he noted, is gaining global recognition.
During the meeting, the NASRDA team delivered a PowerPoint presentation on the agency’s capacity to apply space technologies across key sectors.
Governor Bago expressed satisfaction with the presentation and reiterated his commitment to innovation-led governance.
