The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Monday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 18.

In its weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms in the northern region on Monday, with moderate rainfall expected over parts of Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states.

Later in the day, thunderstorms with rain are expected in parts of Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, and Adamawa states.

For the North-Central region, NiMet forecasts morning thunderstorms and rain over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa states. Thunderstorms are anticipated across the entire region by afternoon and evening.

In the southern region, morning showers are expected in parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Rivers, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Thunderstorms and rain showers are likely later in the day in Enugu, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, and other southern states.

On Tuesday, the northern region is expected to experience morning thunderstorms with rain over Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Bauchi, and Zamfara. In the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with rain are anticipated in Bauchi, Gombe, Zamfara, Kano, Borno, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Sokoto.

In the North-Central region, cloudy skies and morning thunderstorms are expected over the FCT, Plateau, and Nasarawa. Thunderstorms are likely in Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Benue, and other central states by afternoon or evening.

Morning showers are forecast for Ogun, Ondo, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos states in the southern region, with isolated thunderstorms and rain expected later across most parts of the region.

For Wednesday, NiMet predicts morning thunderstorms with rain in Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba states in the north. By afternoon and evening, more thunderstorms are anticipated in Bauchi, Jigawa, Zamfara, Gombe, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, and Adamawa.

In the North-Central region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected in the morning, with thunderstorms likely over Benue and Kogi. Thunderstorms and rain are forecast later in the day in the FCT, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, and Nasarawa.

The southern region will experience cloudy skies and morning rain in Ogun and Lagos, followed by isolated thunderstorms and rain in most areas by afternoon and evening.

NiMet also issued a public advisory, warning that strong winds may precede rainfall, especially in areas prone to thunderstorms.

“The public should take adequate precautions,” the agency stated. “Ensure loose objects are secured, avoid driving during heavy rainfall, and disconnect electrical appliances to reduce the risk of power surges. Stay away from tall trees to prevent injuries from falling branches.”

NiMet also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather forecasts for effective planning.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated by visiting the NiMet website: www.nimet.gov.ng.
