The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has promoted 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across different departments. The promotion moves them from Grade Level 16 to Grade Level 17.
This followed the approval of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who directed the release of results from the first-ever Computer-Based Promotion Examination (CBT).
The exam was held on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University Dutse-Alhaji Study Centre in Bwari Area Council. It was organized to clear a backlog of promotions for workers on Grade Level 16, covering the years 2023 to 2025.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, quoted Emeka Eze, Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, as saying that the promoted officers would fill 49 of the 63 vacant Director positions across various departments.
The Education Officer cadre recorded the highest number of promotions, with 20 officers elevated. This was followed by the Accountant cadre with nine promotions. Other cadres such as Civil Engineering, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers each had one promotion.
For the Education cadre, 820 officers competed for only 20 slots, while in the Administration cadre, 12 officers competed for 10 vacancies.
To ensure transparency, Minister Wike ordered that the promotion process be technology-driven. As a result, the Civil Service Commission conducted the entire examination through CBT, setting a minimum pass mark of 60 percent. This was to ensure fairness, quick release of results, and to prevent external influence.
